The Warm Audio WA73 is the most accurate single channel 73 style reproduction microphone preamp made today. If you have listened to music in the last 30 years then you know the tone of the WA73!

The Warm Audio WA-73 is modeled after the classic 73-Style Preamp, which without a doubt defined the tone of rock/pop music for decades. These classic preamps have been use in every studio around the world as the tonal center piece of countless hits. With the 73-Style preamp so highly desired by engineers and studios, Warm Audio saw the need for a high quality replication. However, the Warm Audio WA-73 is not just another clone. Years of research, reverse engineering, meticulous design, and component sourcing was put into the WA-73 before Warm Audio was satisfied, that they had created the best 73 style preamp in the market. After putting the WA73 through the paces in the studio, the folks here at Front End Audio have to agree.

The WA-73 is excellent sounding all on types of microphones and sound sources- along with that most important tone that we have all heard over and over again on the music we listed too. The WA-73 is the most authentic reproduction made today and every component from the custom Carhnhill Transformers to the Capacitors and Output Transistors are identical to the original. On top of that, every unit is hand wired and assembled ensuring that all quality and performance standards have been met. There is no reason why this preamp, or a pair, should not be in your studio.

What We Think

The WA-73 definitely made me a believer the first time I used it. Not going to lie, my first reaction when hearing about the WA-73 was, "Great, another clone". Then I used it. I simply was floored. It is a piece that left an impression on me. I really loved it in combination with my ADK Hamburg 67 T-FET, on my limited edition Taylor acoustic. There was a warmth and fullness that really accentuated the wood resonance of the guitar, but it was not boxy, and their was still plenty of detail and air. It also sounded great with my ADK Cremona 251. There was a level of detail that really brought forth the sound of the strings. Again on vocals with my 67, it just had the warmth, richness, and forwardness that you want. As a prog-rock/rock musician/engineer, and a baritone vocalist, this pre just gives you that classic rock roots sound that we all know, love, and want. But even with mountain dulcimer, mandolin, and banjo, it sounds great (so not to be pigeonholed). Of course if you want more, just engage the Tone switch, and push more saturation. That right there will enhance an electric guitar better than any pedal. All-in-all, I have enjoyed my experiences with the WA-73, and it made it's way on to the short list for my current studio over-haul.
