Old Faithful
Apr 6th 2016Will not always be the best microphone for the job, but rarely is it ever the worst. My primary applications are snares and guitar cabs, but it has filled in admirably on toms, percussion and even vocals. Experimenting with a few of these is a great way for engineers to broaden their horizons.

Shure SM57
Aug 7th 2013An excellent all round microphone for live acoustic and demo studio recording work.

the classic
May 25th 2012great mic for the money, and for those starting out. It's a do all for the beginning recordist. I'm more advanced now but I still use it on guitar amps, sometimes Toms, and occasionally vocals. Very nice with the AMI/TAB transformer mod as well, even better on snare drum and voice then.

Just get it.
May 17th 2012The workhorse reputation is deserved. Everybody has a few of these on hand, they're just that good and versatile. I've even preferred the sound of it on voice to mics many times the cost.

SM57 Review
Apr 1st 2012Fantastic mic: works good on about every source I put it on. Doesn't do the job perfectly on every source but it gets it done... although it works especially well on my snare.... Great all around mic.

Industry standard for a reason
Jan 17th 2012Truly a workhorse. I have recorded acoustics and electric guitars with this mic and every time it about as plug and play as recording can be. At most, all I have had to do is add a little compression on clean sounds and a bit of eq to make everything sound just right. You just get that clear, cutting sound that makes your guitars sit and sound perfectly in a mix.

Studio workhorse!
Oct 12th 2011Great mic to have on hand at all times in a studio. The 57 will always be there to get you out of a bind. Plus you can drop it from a helicopter without affecting its functionality, if you so desire...

Great for Rock Guitars
Sep 9th 2011The SM57 is a classic and a go to mic for modern guitar tones and snare tops. It can also be used for vocals when matched with the right preamp. Built like a tank, this mic can take the abuse of even the most heavy handed drummers. For what it can do, you would think this mic costs much more than it does. A must-have for your mic locker, if not a few or more!

Shure SM57
May 28th 2011All I can say about this microphone is wow! Although this microphone is cheap, it sounds great on almost everything you use it with. Many professional studios use this microphone for snare drums especially! I really like the sound of it.
