The Oktava MK-012-01 Omni Microphone offers a natural smooth, open and musically balanced character, ideal for acoustic guitar and stringed instruments, piano, and room miking. Hand made in Tula Russia, this studio workhorse was designed with solid electronics and modular parts, giving you the ability to configure the MK-012-01 to your unique recording application.

The Oktava MK-012-01 mic is the most recognizable and well-regarded model in the Oktava lineup. It is a compact, high quality, small diaphragm microphone featuring a omni capsule. The MK-012-01 offers a smooth balanced response which provides an accurate and musical character for all sound sources. The small size of the microphone provides easy positioning, even in tight spaces. Designed to be modular, you can easily swap out the capsule and pad, making this mic a versatile powerhouse in the recording studio. The included -10 dB pad is ideal for high SPL environments, making the MK-012 perfect for drum overheads, snare drum, hand percussion, guitar cab, and more. Optional Cardioid and HyperCardioid capsules are available separately or included in the MK-012-02 and MK-012-03 Microphone Sets.  Whatever you configuration may be, Front End Audio is here to help you build your Oktava microphone system.

As of August 2021, Oktava has introduced updated packaging for all Oktava MK-012 microphones. The new packaging features a high-end color printed flip box with magnetic closure and a rigid foam insert. This new packaging is designed to bring cohesiveness to the brand and provide the most protection for Oktava microphones during transportation and storage.

The Oktava MK-012-01 Omni Microphone is one of those capsules that quietly becomes indispensable once you start using it. The MK-012 platform itself has been a go-to around our studio for close to 20 years, and the omni capsule plays a huge role in why this system is still so relevant. The omni capsule has a very open, smooth, and natural sound. While in the studio, we reach for it often on drum room, acoustic guitars, stringed instruments, and piano—anywhere we want realism, space, and a sense of air without hype. The transient response stays fast and detailed, but the overall presentation feels relaxed and honest, never forced. One of our favorite tricks is pairing the omni capsule with a cardioid MK-012. On acoustic guitar, this can be magic. The omni captures the body and depth of the instrument, while the cardioid focuses on articulation and detail. Blend the two and you get a larger-than-life sound with a unique stereo image that still feels natural and musical. It’s one of those simple techniques that makes you smile when you push up the faders. If you’re looking to expand your MK-012 setup or want a high-quality omni SDC that excels at capturing space, depth, and realism, the Oktava MK-012-01 Omni is a fantastic addition.
