The Oktava MK-012-01 Film Edition Microphone features a hypercardioid capsule and low cut filter making it ideal for film and broadcast. Hand made in Tula Russia, this studio workhorse was designed with solid electronics and modular parts, giving you the ability to configure the MK-012-01 to your unique recording application.

The Oktava MK-012-01 Film Edition Microphone is a compact, high quality, small diaphragm microphone featuring a hypercardioid capsule with low cut filter. This combination make this microphone deal for use in film, broadcast, sound for picture, installation, sound reinforcement and theater situations... and of course the recording studio. Designed to be modular, you can easily swap out the capsule and filter, making this mic a versatile powerhouse wherever your recording needs may be. Optional Omni and Cardioid capsules are available separately if you choose to expand you microphone system.  Whatever you configuration may be, Front End Audio is here to help you build your Oktava microphone system.

As of August 2021, Oktava has introduced updated packaging for all Oktava MK-012 microphones. The new packaging features a high-end color printed flip box with magnetic closure and a rigid foam insert. This new packaging is designed to bring cohesiveness to the brand and provide the most protection for Oktava microphones during transportation and storage.

    The microphone itself is great for podcasts, interviews, etc. The Film Edition comes with a low cut filter, instead of the 10db pad that the "normal" version includes. This mic is an amazing value, but you probably knew that. My review is really about Front End Audio. I discovered them by accident, and wondered if they would be trustworthy, since there are so many known counterfeits of the MK-012. The rep I spoke with was great, and their shipping has been top notch. Oh... and the microphone is genuine Oktava.

    I couldn't find the Film Edition of this microphone anywhere, until I happened upon Front End Audio. They were very helpful had it in stock, and shipped immediately. The microphone made an immediate and noticeable improvement to the sound on my studio videos. This was as good as a buying experience gets. Excellent product, and excellent vendor.

The Oktava MK-012-01 Film Edition Microphone is a purpose-built version of a mic we’ve trusted for years, tailored specifically for film, broadcast, and ENG work. At its core, it’s the same classic MK-012 mic body paired with Oktava’s hyper-cardioid capsule—but the Film Edition tweaks make a lot of sense once you’re out on a sound stage or chasing clean dialogue on location. While recording dialogue on set or grabbing sound effects in less-than-ideal environments, that hyper-cardioid capsule really earns its keep. It has a tight, laser-focused pickup pattern with a subtle upper-mid lift that helps voices cut clearly without sounding harsh or exaggerated. The off-axis rejection is excellent, letting you hone in on the source and keep unwanted noise out of the take—always a win when you don’t control the environment. Instead of including a -10 dB pad (which honestly isn’t doing much for film dialogue anyway), Oktava made the smart move and added a screw-in high-pass filter that sits between the mic body and capsule. This filter gently rolls off low frequencies starting at 85 Hz, making it perfect for taming rumble, handling noise, HVAC, or distant traffic before it ever hits your recorder. Combine that low-end cleanup with the focused hyper-cardioid pattern, and you’ve got a mic that just gets it when it comes to film and broadcast work. Whether you’re on a sound stage, out in the field, or doing ENG work where clean capture is non-negotiable, the Oktava MK-012-01 Film Edition is a rock-solid, no-nonsense tool that’s been quietly helping great audio happen for decades.
