HOLY ZOINKS! WOW.
Jan 14th 2024If this thing is on sale, it's an unbelievable steal. I was unhappy with my results on many vocal takes being too sibilant and/or pointy. This microphone has just neutered all of that. It gives me the closest thing I've had to an instant vocal track. Great detail on the bottom on my baritone voice and smooth up top without spikes or grit that I'd get from my tube mic. Not boxy or pointy in the middle like I was used to having to deal with - what a joy to be free of that. On acoustic guitar, it lends the same kind of results to those same problems. I've tried it through an HA81, Daking Mic Pre One and a BLA B12MK3 and it kills on all of them. I do wish they just shipped the thing with a shockmount. Save the hassle. Who isn't going to need one? It's not like your generic mount is going to fit this flask! Whatever internal mounting this has isn't going to be enough - at least not for me. I cannot speak to it being in any way comparable to a Neumann 67. In the land of possible realities, 1200 bucks probably isnt going to get you there. Doesn't matter. This thing sounds great on its own. Doesn't need to be a Neumann or anybody else. It works. It sounds great. Why not let it be its own beast. And with their regular sales, it's just a glaringly stupid deal. I hope they never change their spots.

JZ Mics V67
Feb 24th 2022Knowing this mic lacks a tube and transformer, and uses an electrolytic capsule, while “emulating” a Neumann U-67 had me skeptical, despite some audio reviews I had come across. The mic sounded great on songs recorded solely with the mic on Lij Shaw’s website and also Produce Like A Pro. The mic was on sale, so I took the plunge. I was surprised to hear how great the mic sounded on my voice. I love some mid forward and airiness on mics, which this has, along with some nice low end that gave my thin voice some believable heft. The mic also excelled on mandolin, acoustic guitar, bass guitar cabinet. It takes EQ well, is very quiet, well built. I am very happy with this mic, adding to my mic collection; Pearlman TM-1, Warm Audio WA-87, Mic Parts.com Telefunken 251’ish Fox 460 circuit and their S-12, Shure SM-7, Oktavamod MKII and a Cascade Fat Head ribbon mic. The V67 just loves my Dizengoff D-4, CAPI V-28, AML EZ 73 and SSL VHD preamps. Kills through a Serpent Audio SA-76, UA 176 vari my clone and my SSL 500 “channel strip” (Dyn 611/EQ611). This is a keeper! While it’s not a Neumann U-67, it is a great sounding mic. I recommend you check it out.
