The Heil PR-20 UT Handheld Dynamic Microphone is a dynamic utility microphone that is excellent for vocals and live sound reinforcement applications.

Its wide frequency range outperforms the tired, 30+ year old industry technology and can withstand huge amounts of SPL. The end result is a microphone that can answer the call to any application. For example, the gorgeous upper mid range makes the Heil PR-20 UT the absolute best live vocal microphone, while its outstanding frequency response and superb dynamic range suit it perfectly for use with a snare drum. Since 1982, Heil Sound has been the leading manufacturer of communications microphones and has a paramount understanding of phasing. When properly applied, this knowledge creates outstanding cardioid patterns with unbelievable rear rejection that removes unwanted sounds that try to enter from the off axis rear. The pattern control of the Heil PR-20 UT is outstanding. This exceptional performance is achieved by using the ideal combination of materials for the large low mass diaphragm and a special mixture of neodymium, iron, and boron that gives the Heil PR-20 UT the strongest magnet structure available.

In addition to the special magnet structure, the Heil PR-20 UT achieves its exceptional performance by using a large 1 1/8" low mass voice coil assembly. Special attention has been paid to the phasing plug assembly with equally placed ports that sense audio from behind, entering them out of phase. Thus, the Heil PR-20 UT produces a very linear cardioid pattern and reduces the proximity effect while achieving perfect articulation. This new Heil element is usable in extreme high sound pressure levels and is immune to overload conditions making it perfect for vocal and live sound applications.

    Great all around mic
    Andrew Busch

I mainly use this for guitar amps. To me, the SM57's just didn't have the low mids and anything on the lower strings were attenuated. To me, I was able to capture the sound I was hearing from my gear better. While the freq. response chart shows a bump in the upper mid range, it sounded more natural to me than the SM57 bump here, and the low frequency range is extended down to 100Hz vs SM57's ~280Hz. I feel like the mic picked up the sound from the speaker without adding or detracting anything noticeable (mic placement dependent). This may be for some, and not for others. This mic does this with very minimal EQ and fairly easy setup. I found the most natural placement of this mic to be center of cone (between speaker center and speaker edge) angled towards the dust cap. It also excels with vocals with very light EQ. Everything I've mic'd with this sounds full, clear, and natural. Right now its my favorite guitar cab mic.

Front End Audio hooked me up!
    Raven Tenderfoot

I ordered this a few days ago. Threw in a cable to get up to the free shipping price. The cable must have been out of stock, because I got a free upgrade. That's what I'm talking about. I don't expect things like that. I really appreciate that instead of making me wait around, they rose to the occasion and made me a happy camper. The mic is great. Just compared it to a SM58 and the Heil PR30. Hell is made in USA. I'm big on that. (Vote Bernie!) It sounds like a veil is lifted compared to the sm58. But then I hooked up the PR30 and the veil disappeared. But that mic is 2 and a half times the price. Best deal I found online. My fingers were crossed, this having been my first purchase with them. This will be the first place I look when shopping online. They're one state over in SC, so it's kinda local. I'm all about it. Seriously, please vote for Bernie Sanders.

    Solid mic; good sound
    Daniel Melnechuk

I had two of these already. Got a new QSC TouchMix 16 mixer and and old mic i had of another brand sounded just awful in the system. My sound engineer said get another of the Heil PR-20 UT to replace it. I'm glad i did. Now the singer's voice is clear as day in my monitor.
