    it is ok
    Troy King

the pre-amps are good but I think there is a lack luster converter on it I recently upgraded and it made a world of difference I suggest a outboard pre amp if you use this interface as well phoenix audio works well with it.

    Best for the price
    Jason Caffee

This is a very solid unit. Great construction, small footprint, great focus rite Pre's, good i/o options, and its expandable. Setup was pretty straight forward. My only gripe is that you have to use the provided software application to do simple things like switch between inst and mic levels and enable the pad. I would prefer to have this functionality on the hardware itself. That being said, the software is very versatile and adds some great functionality to the unit. You can set up different mixes and route them to separate headphone outs, etc... This is definitely a go-to unit in the sub $500 interface category.

    Good Interface for the Price
    Erik

Decent interface for the price. Accepted 8 channels of 48kHz audio over the optical ADAT connection perfectly. However, I had some issues while simultaneously receiving digital data over optical ADAT and coaxial S/PDIF, and a mic plugged into one of the 18i8's pres. I contacted Focusrite support (who was VERY courteous and responded right away), and he verified that I had the proper connection scheme to keep everything clocked properly. But I still had annoying pops in the audio. If you are going to use either S/PDIF or ADAT inputs, then this interface is pretty good. But both at the same time just wasn't working for me.

The good, the bad, and the... well good!
    Bart Baldwin

As someone who is new to editing/mixing audio (for video production) I am really glad I came across the Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 USB Audio Interface! Using "regular" mixers I have had very mixed results (pun not intended). I have found it difficult to get multiple mic input levels even using those types of mixers. That's until the 18i8 Audio Interface! Now I can easily SEE each mic input's levels and make adjustments as needed to get an even and well balanced mix. That's the good. The only "bad" I have to say about the 18i8 Audio Interface is that it's USB and doesn't include a Firewire and/or Thunderbolt option. Having said that, that's not really "bad" because the USB works just fine. No skips, lags, or any issues whatsoever due to the USB interface speed. Overall, I love my Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 USB Audio Interface and I am extremely happy that it is now a major component in my audio editing/mixing process.
