The Crane Song Spider Preamp & Converter featurtes 2-types of digital outputs: Stereo and 8-Channel. The stereo output is for recording engineers who want a very flexible stereo audio path and he 8-channel output allows the system to function as an analog front end for DAWs, digital mixers, and modular digital recorders.
The Crane Song Spider Preamp & Converter's stereo bus can be assigned to digital channels seven and eight. This allows a stereo mix of six channels to be assigned to digital outs seven and eight and leaves two channels independent. (eg. drums; kick, snare, and stereo left to right.)
The maximum analog level at the insert points is +25 dBm. Both the discrete class A pre-amp and the convertor modules are of a very high quality, low noise design. Similar in design to Flamingo's mic pre, the Crane Song Spider's input preamplifier follows an extremely high quality Class A Discrete audio path, crucial to any critical listening environment. The stereo ouput is for recording engineers who do live stereo or multi-channel recording and want a very flexible audio path. The 8 channel output allows the system to function as an analog front end for DAW's, digital mixers, and modular digital recorders. 8 Channel Digital Section features extremely high quality, low noise A/D converters that enable unmatched clarity of audio conversion, in it's class.
The Power supply is an external 2-rack space box that is about 12-inches deep. The Crane Song Spider itself is 4-rack spaces tall and 6-inches deep. There is a 3-foot power cable to connect the 2-units. Allow for at least one rack space between these units for adequate ventilation.

Dec 22nd 2010After extensive research, I found the Crane Song Spider to be the best bang for the buck: 8 high-quality mic preamps, peak limiting, 8-channel ADAT and stereo bus out. You CAN'T find anything else comparable to it!
