Blue Microphones Bottle Rocket Stage One Microphone Capsule Options
- B0 Cardioid Large Diaphragm Capsule - Provides a bright, silky presence that's perfect for lead and background vocals, guitar, percussion, or any other source with an extended top end.
- B1 Cardioid Small Diaphragm Capsule - Great for capturing nylon- or steel-string guitars, small-pitched percussion, and orchestral string instruments. The B1's extended high-frequency response also makes it perfect for drum overheads, ambient/room miking, even Foley and sound-effect recording.
- B2 Figure of Eight Large Diaphragm - The "vintage capsule" of the Bottle Cap Kit, providing the richness of a well-aged ribbon mic. Use this capsule to get vintage character from brass, guitar, woodwinds, and vocals, or to take the edge off of overly-bright instruments. This capsule is also great for acoustic and electric bass, cello, and even whistling.
- B3 Cardioid Mid-Sized Diaphragm - Very transparent, with a neutral sound that's optimum for female vocals, distant miking of orchestral groups and instruments, distorted electric guitars, basses, banjos, mandolins, and resonator guitars. The capsule also lends a "folky" tone to acoustic guitars.
- B4 Perspex Sphere Omni Small Diaphragm - Captures lush lows and sweet highs; it's perfect for the ambient recording of classical and orchestral instrumentation, as well as background vocals, organ, accordion, and drums.
- B5 Pressure Omni Large Diaphragm - The "presence omni." Possessing a unique compressed quality, the B5 features a highly accentuated low and high frequency response that's well suited to capturing high-transient sources like acoustic guitars and percussion. The capsule's extra presence boost also helps tracks cut through a dense mix.
- B6 Standard Cardioid Capsule - designed for the Bottle, and features a frequency response suitable for vocal and general instrument capturing. Blue describes it's sound characteristics as "larger than life", and the cardioid polar pattern is sure to effectively reduce off-axis ambient noise and feedback.
- B7 Cardioid Large Diaphragm Single Backplate - Provides detailed mids and an airy presence, perfect for that "vintage vibe" on vocals, saxophone, flute and all types of guitars. It's also optimum for conventional jazz recording.
- B8 Large Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser - The best choice if only using one capsule - crystal clear sound quality and excellent detail for a wide range of recording applications. Suggested applications: Male & female lead vocals, electric & acoustic guitars, drums, drum overheads, percussion, piano, horns and strings.
- Blue Bottle Cap Capsule Kit - Contains every capsule available in the series, in a durable flight case.

Clean, versatile
May 18th 2012I purchased this mic (under the Red Mic brand) several years ago. Originally I had the B8 capsule then added a B6. I've recently added a second (with the same capsules). For a clean signal with some presence the B8 on this solid state body is great on just about anything. Extremely low-noise and high SPL too! There's other great mics in this price-range for a jack-of-all-trades. But once you factor in the quick-change capsule options these are my favorite way to work.

Very quiet, flexible mic amp
Nov 14th 2011This mic system is a very good, flexible mic system when paired with other "lollipop" style capsule heads made by Blue along with other manufactures, including the classics from Neumann. The mic amp itself is very quiet, low distortion, high-output. It stays out of the way of the capsule. Not crazy about the capsule that comes with the mic – the B8. It has a rough, sizzly upper-mid that I never find a use for. My main use is with a Violet vin-89, which is a flat-response, medium-diaphragm cap. With the Bottle Rocket, it gives a nice, open straightforward sound that's great for clean recordings of acoustic instruments or vocals in good rooms.

good all-rounder
Jun 10th 2010This is a pretty little mic which does the job well. Interchangeable capsules make it very versatile as well. It excels in close mic'ing scenarios and where more focus is called for. In the unit I received however, something's amiss at the contact point between capsule and mic body. A soft but noticeable crackling is heard each time I attach it during setup, which goes away after I wiggle it a little. Minor annoyance, but considering the price paid and Blue's claim to exceptional quality, I flinch a little each time I hear that crackle and hiss.

A Tight Microphone!
Jan 11th 2010I knew what I was looking for, but couldn't find it until now. I wanted a tight mic. The Blue Stage 1 is tight. It has a focused response. The transformer less design makes this mic sensitive, precise and have low distortion. This allows for the exchange of different capsules. For this reason each capsule can perform to it's own standard of high performance without distorting it's purpose. In general, as I can describe it for any capsule, the sound represents great from the mid to the top and focused and tight on the bottom. I can not have asked for a better solution with the great sound quality and versatility this Blue Stage 1 mic provides. I like it allot!
