Introducing the Black Lion Audio Seventeen 500-Series Compressor!

Black Lion Audio has just announced the new Black Lion Audio Seventeen 500-Series Compressor! The Seventeen 500 is a 500-Series version of their popular Black Lion Audio Seventeen Compressor. This is Black Lion's spin on what the classic 1176 compressor could have been. Black Lion Audio added some nice features to the Seventeen compressors such as a mix knob for parallel compression, a stereo-link option, and a frequency-adjustable sidechain high-pass filter.

Rest assured, Black Lion Audio didn't sacrifice a single ounce of tone when they shrunk down their classic Seventeen Compressor into the portable 500-Series format. In fact, they've improved the design! First, they've updated the front-end circuit and coupled it with Black Lion's custom-designed output transformer to give the Seventeen 500 a huge bottom end that balances out it's open top-end nicely. The new IC-based front-end provides a modern, clean, and punchy sound under light compression and when compressed harder, you get a more colorful vintage character. Black Lion Audio also used higher-end capacitors for the Seventeen 500 and reduced the noise floor. Last but not least, they've made engaging the "all buttons in" mode easier than on classic models.

This style of compression is great for many different applications such as drums and guitars. With a stereo drum room track, these would be awesome, especially if you take advantage of the mix knob. You can really drive these compressors hard to get a crushed and aggressive sound, then back it off to taste with the mix knob.
