The Beyerdynamic TG-D71 Boundary Microphone is primarily used for miking bass drums while placing it simply without any additional mounting material into the bass drum. The non-slip rubber bottom makes sure that the microphone cannot shift by itself.

In addition to this the Beyerdynamic TG-D71C can also be used for other low frequency instruments such as cajon, grand piano or upright piano whereas the compact design and the half-cardioid polar pattern ensure easy positioning of the microphone. Due to its high impulse fidelity, a low attack time and a maximum sound pressure level of 148 dB, the Beyerdynamic TG-D71C is suitable for miking percussion instruments.

Status-LED

With a slim and timeless design, it’s both a technical and a visual highlight. A red, illuminating LED status displays the applied phantom power, as well as the operating status of the microphone. The Beyerdynamic TG-D71 Microphone is supplied with a travel bag for protection during transportation. For longer installation on a surface, the Beyerdynamic TG-D71 Microphone has a mounting device on the bottom.

Powerful and Natural Sound

Optimised especially for the bass Around, the Beyerdynamic TG-D71 Microphone delivers a natural sound full of pressure.

Rugged Housing

While the extremely rugged housing ensures optimum protection during use on stage, the compact design allows the microphone to be positioned easily in a bass drum without any additional accessories. The XLR connector has an integrated pre-amp, which is practical both on stage and in the studio.

What We Think

avatar

The first thing we noticed about the Beyerdynamic TG-D71 is that the non-slip pad on the bottom actually works. And yes, that matters — because a mic sliding around inside a kick drum is never part of the plan. Placement does matter, after all. Once it’s in position, the TG-D71 immediately sounds like it belongs there.

Sonically, this mic just makes sense. There’s a deep, natural low end, a touch of bloom in the low mids for weight, and a clear, detailed upper mid and top end that stays smooth and controlled. You hear it and instantly know: this is an inside-kick mic. That confidence is huge when you’re tracking or setting up for a live show. Add in the half-cardioid pattern and you get noticeably better rejection than most boundary mics — which means less bleed and more usable signal. Boundary mics are cool, but bleed is usually the tradeoff. Here, it’s actually under control. With a massive 148 dB SPL handling, the TG-D71 feels completely unfazed no matter how hard the drummer hits. Live or in the studio, it’s a killer kick solution. Pair it with an M88TG on the outside and… honestly, you’re pretty much set on kick for the foreseeable future (assuming “forever” is a real thing). Reliable, purpose-built, and great-sounding — Beyerdynamic nailed this one.
