The Avantone CK-1 FET Pencil Microphone is designed to offer true professional performance. It will meet or surpass the performance and specifications of much higher priced mics. A truly gorgeous looking and sounding mic, the CK-1's design, character and performance can be compared directly to fine studio-standard FET mics but at a fraction of their cost!
The rugged microphone body and capsule assembly are precision machined of brass. Aesthetically, the Avantone CK-1 FET Pencil Microphone features an elegant Cabernet Wine-Red finish, accented with polished nickel trim and capsule assembly. The CK-1 in its normal stock version uses high grade Polystyrene and Metalized Polypropylene capacitors in the audio path. This represents Avantone's commitment to quality as these normally are the type of "upgrade" components that are implemented by microphone modder/hot-rodders! The high quality FET circuitry will yield pleasing professional results comparable to much more expensive designs. Any studio can proudly offer the Avantone CK-1 FET Pencil Microphone for instrumental and percussion miking. It exudes class visually as well as sonically. The Avantone CK-1 FET Pencil Microphone is equally at home on the stage for drum overheads, acoustic instruments and piano.
The Avantone CK-1 FET Pencil Microphone includes (3) interchangeable capsules to provide unlimited miking possibilities! Manufactured using the finest materials yielding a very solid feel, superb structural integrity and rugged reliability, the rugged Avantone CK-1 FET Pencil Microphone is able to produce professional results with a clean sonic character. The included SSM Shockmount is superb in allowing a precise positioning of the Avantone CK-1 FET Pencil Microphone while inhibiting the transfer of unwanted vibrations up into the mic. This isolation allows for superior professional results. The 3 capsules (cardioid, omni, and Hyper-cardioid) offer versatility for accommodating virtually any miking task. The Avantone CK-1 FET Pencil Microphone has separate -10 dB pad & 80 Hz LF roll off switches....The -10dB attenuation switch can be engaged when miking very high SPL sources to keep from overloading the electronics. The 80Hz high-pass filter switch can be engaged to reduce rumble and to keep unwanted low frequencies from "muddying up" the track.

Good price/performance ratio
May 1st 2012Considering you get 3 capsules for the price. There may not be a whole lot of detail in these, but I felt they were accurate, and were not too hyped in the high end which a lot of these low cost mics are.

CK-1 Mic Review
Jan 19th 2011This mic specifications are the best in his price range and higher. Three capsules all with very wide frequency response, in both low and high frequencies, specially in the high frequencies is difficult to find a match for this mic. The signal output of this mic is considerably higher than almost any condenser mic excluding the expensive mics. The sound is the best of this mic. It sound very natural and real. I just found one deficiency the connector at least in the mics i use was extremelly difficult to connect, using mogami cables. So I need to sand the connector a few. So the finnished of his connector is not the best but no important at least for me the sound is the important in audio products.

Outstanding Performance!!
Aug 5th 2010I buy a pair of CK-1basically for recording acoustic instruments (Violins, pianos, nylon guitar, piano) I was surprise of what I was hearing in my speakers, that’s was the sound I was looking for these project. Then I used in a Stereo Pair session with a big Church Choir (around 50 persons)outstanding results. In other proyect I tried with Drums OH, Hi Hat , Latin percussion (Congas, Bongoes, Timbals, Shakers, Cowbell) its blow my mind. In all the situations in studio recording or in live recording, these are the only mics that never disappoint me. The CK-1 it’s very versatile and comes with Hyper-Cardioid & Omni Capsules also great looking mics. Great inversion!! I own (AKG C1000s, AUDIX DRUMS SERIES, SHURE SM81, AKG C30, KM184 PAIR)

Avant CK-1
Sep 1st 2009Let me start by stating the reason for purchase.Ive been wanting to try a nice SDC on snare and thought this would be a nice mic to start with price and quality wise.My first impressions where nice heavy mic with a heavy duty clip. The paint job was nice as well. The mic fits nicely between the snare and hihat, the tones where natural to the source,a 20 db pad was installed along with the mic pad. After the first session using it I was quite impressed with the tones and decided this would be my snare mic for awhile. The only negitive thing was the capsule cover came off during a session, not sure how but my guess the drum wacked it.Would I buy again?FERSURE!
