The ADK Z2-67 Tube Microphone features an airy top end, rounded bottom, and forward mids. While the Z2-67 can handle virtually any sound source, it excels as a vocal mic. And like the mic it pays homage to, it is the quintessential rock vocal mic.
The ADK Z2-67 Tube Microphone is a versatile microphone that will work on almost any source you put in front of it. The ADK Z2-67 is based on the rare M-269 Broadcast-Version of a U67, a mic prized by discriminating musicians and engineers since 1960. The ADK Z2-67 covers the widest range of singers and source-material. ADK's Golden-Ears has chosen the Swedish Lundahl transformer to create extra mid-range required to push the vocal slightly forward in a modern mix. The 67 has the early 60's vibe. Almost imperceptibly mellow. Scoops nasal and sibilance issues in a subtle way. More presence than the 47 and a bit more air than the 47. However, the tailored top-end makes it smoother than the 12 or 251 designs - very Beatle-esque.
Lundahl Transformer
Lundahl transformers are known for their flat-frequency response. Nothing hyped here. The 67 and 49 were best when paired with the Lundahl. The Lundahl keeps the top smooth, and the mid-range perception increases. The lows stay well-behaved – not bloomy. But indeed not a boring choice of transformer! Lundahl is a true hi-fi transformer.
