Sonic Characteristic
Due to its low mass capsule and super thin (yet surprisingly rugged) capsule membrane, the Telefunken Elektroakustik M80 presents a wider range of emotion from a live vocal with an intimacy that has been traditionally reserved for studio quality condenser microphones. The head and capsule assembly has been designed to reduce proximity effect to which nets added low end clarity for vocals, while still providing "strength" and "authority" and an "open," "airy" character without adding danger of upper midrange feedback or "honk."

The Telefunken Elektroakustik M80 features an American made custom wound impedance matching transformer which is where the magic really takes place. Best hand held dynamic I've heard!
Nov 17th 2022I am thoroughly impressed with the clarity and detail of this mic. For me the test is in the low-end of a baritone. With this mic it is all right there in 3D. Then its natural tone is topped off with a subtle sheen and the vibe of the transformer. And it takes EQ very well. And last but certainly not least the build quality is exquisite.

Like a nice (expensive) pair of jeans
May 4th 2021Great, full sound with nice output. I’m an upper range male tenor and it’s hard to find a mic that suits my voice. Closest I got was a Sennheiser e835 or beta 75. Picked this mic up at a friend’s rehearsal space and couldn’t put it down. It’s like a great pair of jeans…you’re like “why do these cost so much?!” And then you put ‘em on and you realize. Comfortable and flattering. Nice feedback rejection, too.

Telefunken Elektroakustik M80
Dec 9th 2014I personally didn't care for this microphone for my voice. I felt it sounded a little on the thin side and the highs were a little brittle. It did seem to be more appropriate for rock songs, as opposed to softer material. I did however, really like this mic on guitar cabinet a lot, and would consider purchasing one, or an M81 for that application.
